I've been on topomax in the past for migraines and it did drastically decrease my appetite. However, when I went back on it after taking anti-psychotics and was still taking anti-psychotics It didn't "cancel out" the effect of increased hunger I was already feeling. I'm no longer taking it but my weight has been stable.

I've been on 100mg for several months now primarily to combat binge eating episodes. I seem to be getting some of my late night appetite binging habits coming back and was going to bring it up during my next visit to my doctor. I was wondering, did anyone notice any big difference in appetite reduction from increasing dosage? Like was there a point where you found that the it took a certain dosage to really get the effect? (Also, I realize that most replying are taking or have taken topamax for migraines and not really seeking to lose weight.)

I have been on Topamax for a year now to control my weight on my psych meds. I take 100 mg in the morning. It's an appetite suppressant, for one thing. But even if I take it at night, it works for me. I lost 20 of the 25 lbs. I put on when I changed my meds. (I put the weight on in 6 weeks, so there was no guessing as to why I put on the weight.) That being said, I think there might be something to the claims that it affects your memory. They don't call it "Dopamax" for nothing.

update: I've not lost any weight and seem to have a whole bunch of new side affects, so, no more topomax for me, at least for now.

Too bad! I was really rooting for you! I hope you find something that works!

Thanks for the update!

Thanks! It's very frustrating to go back to the drawing board on the weight issue so many times. Every AD that supposedly doesn't cause weight gain, has so far caused weight gain. Im so scared I'll never find something that works right.
