I would not advise that in any form without direct help and interaction with your provider and prescriber. It is not safe to just go off these meds.

With Effexor, I know the doctor has said it has a really bad effect if you just stop taking it, like "shocks" under the skin or something.

I would like to stop taking all my meds, too, but I realize I need them to keep me stable. I would talk to your doc before attempting to get off psychiatric meds.--Suzy

talk to ur doctor

if u stop meds suddenly ur body will go into a shock and the common side effects and withdrawal from the meds will kick in

why do u want to stop taking the meds..

i think that question needs to be explored with ur doc in order to work out the best solution for u

seroquel could be combined into two or even one dose
which cood be morning or evening depending on why u take it...

Really? Seroquel can be combined? He has me take 3 a day and 2 at night. I think he is doing that to try to stabalize my mood changes thru-out the day. I will have to keep that in mind.

yeah talk to ur doc about it
maybe go back to the bd dose first
if its still bothering u taking meds at so many times then ask about puttin it into one dose

be aware of how the dosage affects u also
allow ur doc to help u monitor this to ensure that the choices around treatment are in ur best interest

You really must do it slowly, your doctor will advise you how to wean yourself off the meds by reducing the dosage gradually. Especially Effexor ! I came off it after a short period, thought I'd be fine...I thought I was going to die ! horrible shocks in your head, like your brain is spinning in your skull ! Some meds are safer to stop abruptly than others. Don't try to do it alone, it's dangerous. Good luck !

Thank you for all your replies. I went to my psych today and instead of weaning me off my medications, he upped them all.

That must have been a shock! Hope you will give the new dosages time to work & then you can evaluate whether they are working for you.--Suzy

Did he combine any like you wanted so it wasn't quite so obnoxious taking it throughout the day? What sorts of things did he say?

i've heard that before off docs, it sounds totally insensitive to me, a friend of mine said he was feeling well , wanting to come off meds and return to some form of work--same response more meds!!! i despair ,i'm so glad there is a forum such as this to air these views

do not stop effexor cold turkey. I guarantee you will regret it. The withdrawal from it even if you taper very slowly is complete hell. Over lap it with prozac. Some can never get off the stuff due to the severity of the withdrawal. It is really bad.

Taking, or not taking, medication is up to you, completely your decision..

If you wish to see what it would be like without them, I think that's a reasonable quest. But do talk to your doctor, tell him/her that you are going to do this and ask for directions on how to do it (so as to avoid very unpleasant side effects).

I was on meds for over 10 years and decided I wanted to know what it was like to not take them. It has been interesting and I'm finding therapy to be more useful for me.

You can always go back on them if you find that being off them doesn't work for you.

Sometimes if you go off a med that is working & you have another episode the same med will not work for you. That is also one of the reasons I stay on my meds. I'd hate to have an episode & find that the meds I'm on wouldn't help me as they are now. Something to talk to your doc about.--Suzy
