So long history of depression, diagnosis of MDD, GAD and PTSD. Also suffer from panic attacks that are getting worse.

My PDoc increased my lexapro to 40mg as a last ditch effort but it's clearly not helping and I know I'm going to have to do the medication shuffle. I've been on a lot of meds over the years but for some reason never Zoloft. Considering there's an anxiety and PTSD indication for it is there any reason to not suggest trying it?

I've responded in the past to Cymbalta, but can't take Wellbutrin (increased anxiety), Remeron (I slept all day like a zombie), Prozac (at age 20 made me more suicidal). Tried Effexor in the past and it didn't help

I would guess Zoloft or Paxil would be the logical next steps.

Zoloft is great ive been on it for a month now and suffer from the 3 exact same things you do, my anxiety is a 9/10 from what the p docs say mdd is 7/10 and ptsd is 10/10. my anxiety is so bad it manifests into psychosis from time to time, but its just me, i take 50 mg of zoloft, 250 mg of atarax, and 150 mg of topamax a day for borderline personality. zoloft will make your gi issues worse at first. Every once in a while i take doxepin 10 mg for sleep, its a trycyclic antidepressant used for anxiety and sleep but in lower doses its used for sleep, it acts like the drug effexor in a way small doses sleep high doses anxiety.

I have enjoyed both Zoloft and Paxil. For me, Zoloft was a lil more uppity, Paxil a lil more calming. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

I take Paxil and it helps a lot, Zoloft helped me majorly when I was a teen and suicidal but then I took it again after being off for several years and it triggered a manic episode. I agree about the Zoloft being more activating and the Paxil being more calming like the above poster said.

Paxil works for me. I have taken it for 13 years. The first ten years I was on 20 mg. Then dosage was increased to 30 mg. I would be a hot anxious mess without Paxil. It is impossible to withdraw from. Learned that the hard way. But that's OK with me. I have accepted the fact that I will be on Paxil till I die.

Part of my problem is I need activation (without addrerall I will sleep all day) but I also need something to keep me calm (which is also why I'm on klonopin which I likely will be for life at this point). Lexapro at the moment is doing nothing for me and I'd really prefer to not increase the klonopin to the point where I'm stoned. I've heard nightmares about the Paxil withdrawals and was on it very very briefly 15 years ago so no idea if that even worked.

Hi faded,

Not sure if any SSRI is going to come close to replacing adderall. Are you on Lexapro 20? Some docs will let you go to 30. An SSRI/Wellbutrin combo or an SNRI would be worth considering. Good luck and keep us posted.

Zoloft is a lot better than lexapro for me. At 10mg of lexapro I was very suicidal. At 20mg I had a hard time getting up or doing anything so Pdoc switched to Zoloft. Now on 50mg of Zoloft. Some mornings I still have a hard time if I take the Zoloft after 7pm the night before. Zoloft makes me calm and tired but also makes my legs crawl. Getting up and walking aroun and having a cup of chamomile tea helps stop the crawled get and I sleep.

Pdoc put me on Wellbutrin to help get me going in morning and to help my attention focus on tasks such as work. I have to say the Wellbutrin does make me more anxious but I need it to work. All in all I think it's ok. Maybe I should switch out the Wellbutrin for something Else. Or maybe I should get off the Zoloft to stop the crawling. Dunno.
