Hello,

I've titrated up to 300mg Luvox the past 3 months for hair pulling and anxiety. At first it was great- I even felt sort of a euphoria the first couple days but that passed quickly ..It has helped my anxiety and worrisome thoughts a ton but my picking is the same. As I upped the dose more, I now notice I'm clenching my jaws and grinding my teeth.

It hurts. A few days ago I went back down to 100mg Luvox and started 5 mg abilfiy to help with picking but I still feel the clenching. I'm not sure if the neurotransmission theories are correct, but I've heard that having ADHD means your dopamine levels are lower- that causes the symptoms..It made me realize that with the luvox and abilify I may be messing up my dopamine even more.
They say that low dopamine can cause teeth grinding and twiches. I've read articles about people with aDHD having trouble with picking too.

The books all say it's an OCD related disorder but this i'm not sure. Antipsychotics and antidepressants lower dopamine so I'm not sure if' I'm on the right regime..
I'm still grinding, but it's better since I lowered the luvox and take the small abilify dosage
I'm not sure if I need to be on an adult add med like Strattera and balance it out with a small dose of Luvox or another SSRI- I don't like the teeth grinding these seem to cause. I've heard that Buspar helps with that..

any advice, anyone have anything similar or something that works for them-
Hugs from:

I clench and grind my teeth too and wonder if its because of meds I take. I take numerous ones but have taken lamictal the longest. I now have TMJ issues and wear a custom bite splint and it helps with the pain.

I have started clenching my teeth ever since I started taking Adderall. Not sure what my pdoc is going to do about. It isn't too bad more annoying than anything else right now. Jaw does get a little sore.

I used to grind my teeth very badly in my sleep when I was on Zoloft, it's a side effect of some meds. You can ask about getting a mouth guard

I grind and clench my teeth, but it isn't because of meds. I just have always done this. I have TMJ, and it sucks! Talk to a dentist and get a mouth guard to protect your teeth. Mouth guards don't do anything for my TMJ, and my ortho won't make me a splint. Maybe you should try Wellburtin? It's regarded as a weak NDRI.

I'm on Cymbalta (60 mg) and Wellbutrin (150 mg) and keep waking up with a sore jaw from clenching (or maybe grinding?) my teeth at night. It used to be something I'd do occasionally from anxiety, but now I seem to be feeling more symptoms of it. I think I'll mention it to my pdoc when I see her Thursday along with some other possible side effects (I've been on the Cymbalta for a few months but just started Wellbutrin 2 weeks ago).
Thanks for this!

Thanks for the responses everyone- I've gotten off the Luvox and on 150 mg wellbutrin and 5 mg abilify split in 2 doses am and pm. I'ts only been a few days and I'm having horrible withdrawals from LVX...sweating, fever , disruptive sleep with wild dreams.
I'm hoping that will pass..the sore jaw and clenching is gone though ..I hope it doesn't come back..what I really want though is a different med to replace abilify for anxiety. Something that won't cause weight gain..
any suggestions?

I take hydroxyzine for anxiety, it's pretty mild to be honest, it's just a antihistamine but it works fairly well

That's cool- never heard of it. Does it cause any weight gain..i'm sensitive to weight gain or sugar imbalances which sometimes antihistamines can cause.

Thanks for the tip

I haven't had any weight gain on it It controls some of my anxiety, not the severe panic stuff when I'm out in public but the general anxious feeling it helps with

When I first started taking Lexapro, I clenched my jaws horribly. It passed after a few weeks.
