Any thoughts on seeing a nurse practitioner vs a pdoc? My pdoc is leaving and their replacing him with a NP. I don't know if its a long term decision or if a pdoc will be coming in.

Any thoughts? I see a NP for my general health concerns but usually prefer a pdoc.

I prefer a pdoc too, or at psych PA (physician's assistant.) I think a NP would be fine for someone with plain-vanilla anxiety or depression who wasn't treatment resistant and didn't have other medical problems, but for anything more complicated, I'm not too keen on psych NPs. I have seen 3 different psych NPs over the years. Two were so-so and one was not so great.

If you don't want to see the NP, do you have a choice?

I've seen both pdocs and psych NPs I currently see a psych np, I feel like they're a lot more personable and easy to talk to than psychiatrists

Im hoping this NP has a great amount of experience in this field. If I don't like this coming NP Id have to switch to a different clinic (again!)

I see a psych NP (on break currently because I'm off of meds) and honestly if I could find a psychiatrist close by that my insurance covers I would switch. Obviously not all NPs are the same, but mine always seems overly reliant on her desk reference book and seems to have little experience in anything but the most basic of cases.

I'm hoping this np is good...it took a long time to find a good pdoc and he's leaving. I really don't wanna switch again

Yeah, that's awful losing a practitioner that you respect and trust. I'm sorry you're dealing with this
