I think if you use benzos correctly and carefully then no, they aren't bad.

I go from taking up to 4mg klonopin/day to taking none at the drop of a hat depending on my life circumstances and how my anxiety is. I have never experienced any withdrawal, and when I say I just stop, I mean it -- cold turkey...take it one day, don't the next, and the next and so on. Right now I'm on a lot of klonopin, but I'm hoping that once the buspar kicks in, I can go back down to none or 2mg max/day. But for now, I'm taking what I need to to get through the day.

That is so true. At first small dose helped me a lot, then p-doc increased dosage. I cannot wait to be off Klonopin. Looking back I see how it's affected my thinking ability, and my work requires critical thinking.
