Ive been on invega for 8 years..Had my docs appointment yesterday and I asked him to wean me off of the invega b/c of no periods for a year..He thought it was a good idea to start the process.

Well during those 8 years on invega I probably gained about 50-60lbs

I am reallllly curious and thought id ask you guys- if you wean off of your medication will you eventually start loosing the weight you gained?

Thanks so much =)

When I cut down on serequel last summer, I dropped about 15 lbs without trying. Haven't lost anymore but my eating habits have a lot to be desired.

According to my pdoc it's possible, but it isn't a given.
I went from a BMI of 17.5 to one of 24.9 (presently 24.0) on Zyprexa.

I'm still on Zyprexa, by the way. Just a lower dose.

When I got off of a weight gaining med, I didn't lose the weight automatically. I needed to watch my diet and exercise.

Thanks all!

I actually tried coming off of Invega about 4-5 years ago and my doctor took me off cold turkey and added geodon as a replacement...I dropped about 25 lbs in a month..but I wasnt sure if that was because of the geodon or invega...

Guess im going to have to wait and see lol

I came off Abilify last August and have lost 30 of my 40 pounds I gained on it. It's been a slow process, but I am spine injured so I can't work out. It's a lot slower to lose weight without exercising, but it's been a pretty simple process and not one where I am hungry all the time. I have simply slowly lost what I gained. Good luck!

(Now once I get rid of my last ten Abilify pounds I get to tackle my 60 Geodon pounds. I'm not sure if I gained weight on the two supposedly more weight-neutral drugs because I can't exercise like most people, or because I would have gained weight anyway).

I don't think it's automatic, but it does help. When I came off my meds a few years back i think diet and exercise played a role.

I've noticed losing maybe a few pounds, but that's all.

I put on 30% of my weight taking zyprexa. I hav switched meds, but have been told it will take time for the weight to come off. I have to exercise and eat well too. They are not sure whether I will ever get back to my old weight (55kg). I'm going to try though.
