My pdoc just added Abilify to my meds.
I have never been on it before and I keep reading that weight gain
is a big problem with this med. Is anyone on it and if so what can you tell
me about it. It also seems to make me sick to my stomach.
Thank you for any response.

I was on a low dose and didn't suffer any weight gain or side affects, but after a year I didn't notice any difference either so I stopped taking it. Might have been wiser to talk to doc and try adjusting the dose first...
Thanks for this!

I was on Abilify for just over a month but ended up having to switch because of the akathisia (restlessness) which is probably the most common side effect of the medication.

Interestingly, Abilify is actually considered fairly 'weight neutral'... most people are unlikely to gain any significant amounts of weight whilst on it although of course there are exceptions to that.

I never had any problems with it making me sick to my stomach... I'd imagine that'll pass as you adjust to the medication though.

Let us know how you get on with it, hopefully it'll work out well for you!

I had no side effects from Abilify at 5 mg, but did gain a little weight when I started taking 10 mg. But I also started hormone replacement therapy at the same time, which may have caused or contributed to the weight gain

I've been on Abilify for 6 months now and have definitely gained weight. For me, it helps with depression, but if I increase it enough to pull me out of a deep depression, then it tends to make me hypomanic. There doesn't seem to be a middle ground for me - if I take enough to not be depressed, then I'm hypomanic. If I take a low enough dose to not be hypomanic, then I'm depressed. I'm currently titrating up on lamictal with the intention of getting off Abilify. The weight gain has become intolerable to me.
