Its a supplement, you can buy over the counter. I have depression and bad ocd. Problem is i think it interacts with my ssri. Should i just stick with meds or eventually try it one day? Im usually in a desperation state so ill try many things that claim to help. another problem is most docs dont recommend these types of things.

It's worth a try as a supplement in addition to your SSRI. Some with light depression use it alone and find it effective. You might inquire about Deplin with your pdoc. You need it prescribed, classified as a 'medical food'. I've been taking as a supplement in addition to my SSNRI for about 6 mos. and seems to be making a difference.

With that one you should be careful if you are taking an SSRI. It can cause too much serotonin and serotonin syndrome from what I understand.

I would recommend trying Deplin, B vitamins, fish oil, and vitamin D.

5HTP on SSRI... an absolute no-no. I've seen serotonin syndrome twice in my life and it was pretty scary.

Yeah you should definitely ask your doctor before adding supplements, or anything to your diet, because they can interact ...

I bought a bottle of 5HTP last year it was 30 dollars. I didn't take it for long though because of the risk of serotonin syndrome.
