My Dr. wants to start me on a medication that is very new, I think it's only been out since summer. It's for depression and a sleep aid. I'm kind of afraid to take it.
Has anyone heard of it, or know anyone has taken it?

Thanks!

I take it. It's an antipsychotic Apptoved for major depression and schizophrenia. It's helped me and no side effects. As for sleep aide?? I have to take it in am because it gives me alertness. Kept me up when I took it at night. It's worth a shot.

Have you tried antidepressants and they just don't work for you? I'm just curious. None of the antipsychotics I've tried in the past did much for my depression.

I take it and it seems to be working so far. I also have to take it in the morning because of insomnia so I am not sure about it as a sleep aid.

Hello,

I asked my doctor about his experience with Rexulti. He has a few patients taking it, and he reports about the same level of effectiveness as Latuda or Abilify - the other newer medications in the same class, AAP.

I hope this helps. Do you know what specific symptoms you would like this medication to help you find relief from? Thanks,

moogs

I suffer from MDD, anxiety, mood disorder (s).
I have tried so many meds for the depression and with me, the problem is that I get over stimulated to the point wear it gives me even more anxiety. I have an extremely low tolerance to most medications.
I'm currently on cymbalta and it helps with nerve pain that I suffer from, and it's not too bad for depression but even trying 90 mg's I'm on the over stimulation line. I can't take more than 60 mg's, I know people that take twice that and it doesn't bother them.
I've tried brintellex which was good for 3 weeks until it caused severe anxiety and manic episodes.
I take lamictal now for mood disorders, and at least that works well. I also take trazadone for sleeping, works good but I'm a zombie in the morning. So I try to take a little bit less, then I don't sleep.
For anxiety I take klonopin which i've been on for over 20 years. I started taking it in the 90's when they seemed to be handing it out like candy. My maximum dosage was 8 mg per day. I wish I never got put on that. Of course it helps, with the least side effects. The addiction to it is horrible though. I now take 2.5 m and am very slowly trying to wean down a little more.

It's been a rough road trying to find the right meds. I think I am going to tr the rexulti. I don't like being a guinea pig........... but..... ?? I'm just hoping I don't get the over stimulation from it. AND the Dr. did say to take it at night with my other meds......... I don't know.

Sleep aid? If you look at the trial data, it hardly ever causes sedation or somnolence. Don't count on it making you sleep.

I just started Rexulti after having tried 4 different antipsychotics. I don't know yet how it works, but I have zero side effects which is nothing short of a miracle.

Exactly. I hardly ever tolerate APs so my dr was reluctant to try this one ( I'm also allergic to abilify so she was worried I could react.) but I've had no side effects whatsoever! It certainly doesn't make me tired.
