They are both to treat bipolar depression. I'm also on 20 mg of prozac. My question is, Lamictal and Seroquel are both to treat bipolar disorder so why am I on both? I mean km wiling to try it all. I made the mistake of thinking I could live without meds.... it was a disaster. Anyone have good results with Seroquel?

You're on both because they are pharmacologically different.

Seroquel is an atypical antipsychotic that increases neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine. Thus it will help with bipolar depression.

Lamictical is a mood stabilizer that helps with bipolar depression. It's actually an anti-seizure medication. It has no effect on serotonin and dopamine.

She told me I could cut it in half if it makes me drowsy. I'm only on 50 mg.

Ask your psychiatrist, babiesandbarbells. Some people with bipolar disorder need both an antipsychotic and a mood stabilizer, but not all of them do. They both tend to be used for bringing people down from the highs of bipolar disorder, but that's not all they are used for. It depends on the individual and their symptoms as well.

I was on 25mg of Seroquel in the hospital. Didn't make me sleepy & cut back anxiety a little bit. I had an okay experience with it, but it wasn't the only med I was taking.

Yes and no. It caused weight gain which is unacceptable to me. I am currently looking for an alternative. My first psychiatrist had mentioned abilify. Anyone use that? He was treating me for C-PTSD.

I tried abilify earlier as i was looking for another med to replce olanzapine. seroquel is something i am always on, but it doesn't have strong effect on me with psychosis and stuff. I didn't like abilify is because it's rather mild and caused me to be anxious / irritable. so i stopped and tried some other med which was worse and caused stiffness. but abilify doesn't have the weight gain effect which was why my pdoc thought it's good to try. you can try to see i guess

seroquel u mean? it does cause drowsiness which is very prominent in the beginning when u take it, but after your body adjusts to it the symptom is not as severe. 50mg is good to start.
seroquel has two type, one is short release and one is extended release. the 25mg only comes in short release. it's a small round tablets. the extended one lowest dose is 50mg and the tablet is capsule type (long and not round). I am always on extended release

I'm on 50 MG and the pill looks more like the 25 mg you described. Tiny and round. So far I don't mind it and I also don't mind the weight gain as I'm already underweight and really active.

We'll I have been on Lamictal already. I stopped taking it for a get months and decided I needed to be back on it. So we are both pretty aware of its affects go my Body. And she definitely explained it go me I was just coming on here to see what others have heard about it and experiences with Seroquel

I tried Lamictal years ago and it didn't set well with me so I stopped...everyone is different . Anyways now I am also taking Seroquel in part for sleep and with other meds to help with anxiety and depression issues. Seroquel has really helped with my insomnia and to calm me at night. You will need to get the does just right though . As far as weight gain eh maybe a pound or two nothing major but I also go to the gym and try to eat healthy.

I would definitely talk to your doc and be a bit more informed about your meds.

Then probably ur on the short release one. It's reddish colour. It's helps ppl to sleep quick n has less sedative effect in the day since its quickly released into the body
