My pdoc has prescribed me Anafranil after trying all the SSRIs (apart from Luvox) which have had little or no effect.
I currently suffer from Anorexia, Depression, OCD and social anxiety.

The problem I have is when I look at all the side effects I see weight gain and pretty major side effects.

I find it strange that my pdoc would give me a drug that can cause weight gain when I have Anorexia, so much so I haven't taken it yet and in fact I'm scared to take it,it seems such a "dangerous" drug.

Has anyone got any experience of Anafranil?

I've known it to have helped a few friends w chronic depression. I'd give it a shot!

The side effects are dose dependent. On a high dosage, many people get side effects that are generally not accepted these days. On a lower dosage or if you are more resistant to side effect, maybe it will work out.

I was on the max dosage so I had "all" the side effects. It wasn't so much fun.

Any reason not trying Luvox?

I've been on clomipramine (= anafranil). I lost a lot of weight while on it. It helped some with OCD-ish symptoms (I don't have the formal diagnosis, just some symptoms) and didn't help with the depression.

My pdoc also said clomipramine is his favourite drug.

My pdoc has given up on SSRIs and moved to Tricyclics that's why I've not had Luvox.

I took a 10mg Cloimpramine last night and I can feel my heart racing today slightly. Just not sure at all about this drug.

Good luck. Just wondering because my doc also gave up on SSRIs with me and I insisted on Luvox and it was right for me. LOL.

Luvox has bad reputation since it came out one of the Columbine killers was on it. After that it is almost always the last one to try.
Thanks for this!
