Duloxetine is the generic equivalent of Cymbalta. I started out on Cymbalta & switched to duloxetine when it became available. I had equally good results with both.

Yes, the same thing for all intents and purposes. Same ingredients, same proportion of ingredients. Cymbalta is the name brand - the drug manufacturer brought the drug to market and had a patent on it for a number of years, meaning no other company was legally allowed to replicate it. The patent expired, so is other pharmaceutical companies are legally allow to produce it and complete for sales.

Technically, the brand and the generic can be somewhat different in that the manufacuring process can vary. By and large, it does not affect how effective the generic version of the brand name version works. Once in a while it does. (For example, there is name brand allergy medicine that works great for me, but the generic doesn't - it has to be something in the production process. On the other hand, I have found a generic migraine med to be better than the name brand version - probably highly unusual but I'm trusting my body on this.) Recently, national news has been made for a generic failing (can't remember the drug) and people ended up hospitalized or dying. Tragic, but fortunately very uncommon.

So, for Skeezyks' switching from brand name Cymbalta to the generic version duloxtine he found me not diffference, which is a good thing.
