I've posted in both bipolar & anxiety forums about this but I know it's not a pop lunar choice nowadays & want as much feedback as possible.

My question is, has anyone here taken or is currently taking stelazine (trifluoperazine) at low doses for anxiety/agitation? Low doses being 1-2mg twice daily.

I've never taken Stelazine, but I don't think it's the best solution for anxiety.

Stelazine is a typical (not atypical) antipsychotic. Yes, some people have found it effective for anxiety, but because it's a typical antipsychotic you do run the risk of tardive dyskinesia (TD). Also, this medication is not effective in improving sleep.

I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks kindness.

Yeh I have concerns over EPS particularly TD! I'm going to a see if I can speak to a pharmacist about the risks on low doses, also I feel like it will only be a 12 week course as that's what I've read it's approved for when used for anxiety.

Your right it doesn't make me drowsy at all but I need a daytime solution I can function with so that actually doesn't concern me, also I hate sedation unless it's benzo induced. I'm not sure if it did make me calmer but I've only taken 2 doses so far haha.

I can't take SSRI/SNRIs (causes hypomania, not the fun kind) & my pdoc will not rx benzos due to substance use.so I'm left with APs. I HATED low dose seroquel with a passion & it's caused me to refused all AP rx up until now.
