My doc prescribed me Propranolol for anxiety.
Anyone take this for that reason?
Any side effects like weight gain?
Any experience is appreciated.
Thanks.

I was given it a few years ago for anxiety. It's a beta blocker and slows your heart rate. It works by reducing the physical symptoms of anxiety.
I didn't notice any side effects at all when I took it. I didn't find it helpful but many people do. Be careful if you're asthmatic

I use it prn. Doesnt sedate but helps me with physical symptoms like shlow breathing, heartrate, tremor. Side effects I have is I feel a bit warmer than usual and a bit tired when coming down.

Mx: To clean up the mess use lamotrigine, r

A lot of classical musicians, take it for performance anxiety before a performance, to shut down the physical symptoms of anxiety.

It's great, works far better than a benzo and without side effects.

I was prescribed Propranalol back in the 90s. It did nothing for anxiety and had no effect on my heart rate. Mine was still around 200bpm.
That's my experience.
This doesn't mean it won't help you though... people react differently to different meds.

I take it as needed, and I've had good luck with it. I was prescribed it to stop the jitters that I was getting from some of my other meds, but I found it works great to help me get to sleep. It just slows everything down and helps me relax.

In my biology class, we discussed beta blockers and that they work because they dilate the veins and arteries to reduce blood pressure.

I was taking proponalol for anxiety and it helped for a few weeks. Then it didn't do much of anything. My doctor switched me to hydroxyzine and that's much more helpful.

Yes excellent point, you're doctor shouldn't be even prescribing it if you're asthmatic but not all doctors are thorough. That aside, I have taken propranolol for anxiety before and it was very effective for physical symptoms. my body is very sensitive to adrenaline surges and it's great for that. I only took it as needed and have not needed it in months.

If you participate in vigorous exercise, reduce or delay your dose if it's clouse to a workout. Because it slows the heartrate you may not be able to effectively exercise intensely. for light activity, a walk or such it should not be a problem

Quite, I'm mildly asthmatic and was still prescribed it. Not sure if it depends on severity or not but as I read it can trigger attacks so possibly not the best choice even if mild? I have been given them again recently but won't be taking them.
They are helpful for many though

It doesn't work for me. The only side effect I had was sexual. I had no interest for the next two days after I would take it.
