That is my question. Do antacid medication affect how much of your psych med that actually ends up in your blood? I've asked the professionals and they thought I made a stupid question just because they have no answer to it. I feel like effects sometimes are delayed and I wonder if it is the antacid? If I quit antacids, will the meds have more or less or the same effect?

I can't be the only one surviving on antacid medication of all kinds.

The short answer is it depends. If you're feeling patient, work your way though this and find the med you're on, scroll to contraindications and see if it says PPI = proton pump inhibitor. (The meds you mentioned fall into that class).

The BNF is the British National Formulary which is our "dictionary" of all available meds, so depending on your country, some may/ may not be listed.
Hope this helps!

I take Zantac enough times, but I've never noticed a difference.

Zantac is an H2-receptor-antagonist, not a proton pump inhibitor.

OP: ask the doctor to check your blood levels.

ETA: sorry, I hadn't looked up prilosec, which is a PPI. Be wary of PPI's: they can cause and/or worsen depression. That's the reason I switched from omeprazol (prilosec) to ranitidine (zantac), actually.

That site blocks me because I am outside UK.

What I wonder about is not really interactions, but the physical fact your body will work with much less gastric acid. I have been told if I have to want to absorb iron from food I need to stop the antacids. Thought maybe meds too can absorb more poorly?

Going off antacids is no alternative though.

In an ideal world that would be possible. I don't really see anyone and I only have the right to see a doctor every 18th month. There is no one to ask. Also, when I pile up questions for my rare appointments, they can't ever answer them, nor do they investigate anything. They just sigh and act like I am being a jerk on purpose.

Kind of why I ask here.
