I started Xanax 10 MG last night and feel wonderful, but woke up at 4 AM this morning. I have been having non stop crying spells and tomorrow I will be making a trip to my psychiatrist near to us with my mom. Mom is extremely supporrtive, everyone is, but I am having depression and anxiety.

(((HUGS)))) Countryfan. Xanax is fairly heavy duty anti anxiety med. But as far as I know it does not have any AD properties. I'm surprised that at 10 mgs on your 1st time taking it that you woke up @4am! I have been proscribed a different benzo for any yrs and have built up a Farley high tolerance to almost all meds in that family, not that I am presently prescribed a high dose or take it more than nescary, but I can if need be tolerate lrg doses....but Xanax.. I was given .5 mgs prn in hospital for sleep once and I don't even remember getting drowsy...but apparently I sleep for 20hrs straight!! Everybody is different though. I'm glad to hear you mom is very supportive. That's huge. As it was the your first dose of that med, I wouldn't give up on it yet. A lot of Pdocs don't like to start more than one new med simultaneously. Which I generally think is smart. Lessens confusion of side effects. And can potentially be dangerous. I'd ur specific history or presenting symptoms and I am CERTAINLY NOT A DR. but from my personal experiences, I do find it odd that, esp if this is your first time being dxd/ treated w/ psych meds, that a Pdoc would prescribe an anti anxiety before trying an AD first, as many ADs help some ppl with anxiety as well... I'm glad you have another appt soon and it is helpful for both the Dr and ur own knowledge to keep a journal/ log of new meds for a least a couple of weeks or longer. These logs can include as much info as you find applicable but at very least, time taken, when and what you last ate prior to med time. Approx daily fluid intake. Any new or worsening symptoms both mental and physical be a descriptive as needed. And include ×symptom started, length, intensity 1-10 scale is good, duration and frequency if the symptoms re occur. Also any other factors that might be contributing to symptoms ie caffeine intake, and other observed external stressors. Hope it all works out well with your upcoming app and that you find some relief soon.

I'm sorry you've had such a rough morning. I'm glad you are going to see your psychiatrist and that your mom is supportive. I hope tonight goes better for you.

10mg in one dose? At my very worst I took 10mg per day. 10mg in one dose is like a highway to death. Of course you felt wonderful; you should have been blitzed out. No pharmacy in the States would have filled a script with those dosage instructions.

Xanax is a depressive so it's no surprise that you're feeling as you do. If I were you, I would call the doctor who prescribed those that you took and ask for the correct dosage or if you got them from a friend take no more than 2mg per day - if you have the oval blue or if you have the long white 'planks' you'll just need to cut them up. ONLY TAKE THEM if you feel that you need them, though. It would be much, much better if you could get by without them before you see the psychiatrist.

It's great that you have support. What were you feeling that made you think that anxiety could help you?

i was thinking the same thing, 10mg xanax in the beginning when havent been on any other meds just seems really high.. if i didnt use drugs or any other medications and i took 10mg xanax on the first day i probably would wake up in a depressive episode too

i've heard of people taking them to get high just taking 2-4mgs even...

I use to take .25 mg as needed, but cant imagine taking 10 mg for a single dose. I agree with the others that you need to question the Dr who prescribes you that.

10 mg ???? Thats really a huge dose. Was there a huge crisis or something that the doctor felt that totally zombifying you into crying mess was going to help something?

Yes please be seen asap .

Wow, that is a really high dose. I am on the extended release version of Xanax right now (not working currently) but I remember being on the immediate release. I only needed *0.25* mg to chill me out enough. Did you take too much on your own or did your doctor actually prescribe you 10mg? I hope you get better!
