Has anyone else taken Elavil for sleep? I just started taking it, in place of Remeron, for sleep. The problem is, it seems to be causing my body to twitch back awake every time I start to nod off. There's no other way to really describe it. You know when you sitting in class and nod off, then wake up really suddenly because you;re not supposed to be sleeping? Well, that's what happens except my whole body jerks awake. My arms and legs go flailing.

I nearly unintentionally knocked myself out of bed because of this a few minutes ago. I don't know if this is because of the Elavil or if it's something weird and new from my insomnia.

Would love to know if anyone has experienced this on or off Elavil.

Elavil is amitriptyline, right? I took it for about a year. It helped me to sleep through the night and not wake up all the time. I quit it when, because I needed an antidepressant, my pdoc increased the dosage and I got unbearable side effects.

I loved it. I got taken off of it after I ate the whole bottle + some other miscellaneous drugs in my apartment. I by no means blame the Elavil.
