Is it okay to just take disintegrating with water like you do the rest of your pills, or does it mess with them? I ask because I'm on Zyprexa Zydis which is an ODT and rather gross, and my pdoc accidentally wrote my lamictal Rx for ODTs (oddly sort of a sweet minty taste that's actually not bad).

I would say to let it disintegrate then drink some water. Swallowing it whole, the medication won't get into your system as fast. When in doubt call the pharmacist or doc about it.

If they are brand name and disolve quickly..wait til after for the water... generics on the other hand can vary greatly in both bioavailability and consistency. Sometimes if I end up with an off brand generic and it just is slow crumbly and awful textured I will wet my mouth with small amounts of water or ginger ale to help break them down easier but try not to swallow but just swish it around a bit til tablet is gone.

No brand names here (THANK GOD -- they cost too much)! Only name brand stuff I have is my asthma inhalers.

When I took some kind of semi soluble vitamins it said you can take them whole. So for them it didn't matter. But psych meds are more dependent on an exact dosage so I wouldn't mess with it.

For Zydis there is some evidence they mess up metabolism less than the normal ones, I guess if Zydis is swallowed they might also cause metabolism issues? Just guessing.

On the other hand, I did swallow my semi soluble Prozac cuz they tasted of aniseed, one of the worst flavors on EARTH! It made no difference to me. So I think it depends on the type of med.

Maybe a pharmacy person would know? Here where I live we have free pharmacy advice from a legit website, don't know about there.
Thanks for this!

The reason I'm on Zydis is so I don't gain as much weight. I gained 35lbs in 2 months on regular, and so for on Zydis AND Seroquel I've gained a total of 20lbs.
