I'm looking for an antipsychotic which:

(1) does not cause weight gain, and
(2) is good for treating mania

A lot of antipsychotics are good for depression, but I need something for my mania. Does anyone know any antipsychotics that meet my requested criteria?

I don't mind having a *little* weight gain because I'm underweight... But I've heard some medications make people gain like 50 lbs, and I don't want that! Like 10 lbs is okay with me, but not 50.

I take Geodon, and it works great for me. Haven't been manic in over four months

Ah, I was taking Latuda for a while, but I had to stop because of the cholesterol problems it caused. I'm now on Lipitor, though, so I suppose I could try Latuda again.

I'll look into Geodon -- thanks!

Because I am hypomanic and had a lot of weight gain from Seroquel my doctor just switched me to Saphris last week. I have lost 3 pounds and my appetite is way down since starting it.

I've heard Saphris can make you drowsy... How much sleep do you get with Saphris?

I still take Saphris although I'm transitioning off it. When I took 13.5 mg at night I almost always slept ten hours

What about Invega? If Abilify doesn't work for me my pdoc is going to try me on that next.

I have trouble sleeping so even on Saphris I only get 3-5 hours a night.

Thanks, everyone. I'll probably ask about Invega and Geodon... possibly Abilify too

FWIW, I was underweight too and got prescribed zyprexa. Think it has a reputation for making people gain weight but I only gained about 10 pounds. So guess it depends on person.
