About 2 years ago I was diagnosed with health anxiety and went on Lexapro, it worked wonders and I was able to go back to normal and feel ok again.

Now my anxiety is coming back, this time in the form of social anxiety. I dread social interaction and replay these interactions in my head, torturing myself. I feel constantly judged and uncomfortable and like everything I say is wrong.

I have a feeling I've become immune to Lexapro. I saw a doctor (a pretty bad one..) about 2 months ago, who bumped me up to 15mg but it made no difference.

I'm thinking I need to change meds, but can anti-depressants help with social anxiety?? I long to feel ok again. I'm now relying on alcohol to get me through social situations and that needs to stop.

Therapy might be the best way to go. Benzos like Valium , Xanax, and Klonopin can help short term. Dont know if antidepressants can help with social anxiety. I know they are supposed to have some effect on general anxiety

If you're desperate enough, Nardil is amazing. I'm not sure by the sound of things that your SA is severe enough to make it worth it, but it'd be up to you. It was the best thing I've ever taken, I've taken it twice but quit due to huge weight gain and some other side effects. Good luck!

I agree. I was going to suggest the same thing.

Therapy helps more than people would think.

I have generalized anxiety disorder and I'm able to handle my anxiety well for the most part, thanks to therapy. I have Ativan to take when needed, but I hardly use it. In fact, I only seem to use it when I'm manic, as I'm full of energy and need something to calm me down so that I can sleep. So the Ativan isn't really used for anxiety.
Thanks for this!

Hello. I take Lexapro for social anxiety myself. Tried Zoloft, but never did me any good. Had too many side effects. I just got added Ativan because of panic attacks, mainly for panic disorder attacks. Anti-depressants are fine for anxiety disorders too, along with depression types. I'd personally try another SSRI like Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil. I probably wouldn't try Celexa, but you can, it's just very similar in terms of chemical compounds to Lexapro. If you have major performance anxiety and do presentations a lot, you can try a beta-blocker, specifically propranolol. I never have tried it, but know it is used specifically for performance social anxiety. Hope you find your right cocktail Anti-Depressants for social anxiety?.

Social anxiety disorder, ASD, GAD, OCD, and panic disorder

Lexapro, 10 mg; Ativan 0.5 mg PRN
