My daughter, age 14, just had a med adjustment of her Prozac and addition of Seroquel 25 mg at night. Has anyone taken this combination? Any side effects? I'm hoping she can get some restful sleep finally!

I took prozac 20mg and seroquel 300mg, it made me really tired and I slep up to 16h a day. I was 15 years old.

Any typical or atypical antipsychotic for a 14 yr old is a red flag, imo. The side effects for adults can be very harsh. I don't know if you have looked into the med. and it's side effects. She is now taking one med, the AAP., to offset the Prozac for insomnia. Is what I think from your OP.?
Links on side effects of Seroquel for sleep and in general.
This most importantly, should be talked to with your pdoc and the other health providers for your daughter!

There are other links at the bottom of the pages. I always think it a good thing to go into a checkup/meeting with questions that need explanations, or sorting out. That way you will have the topics/questions ready because their time is usually never enough and in many cases expensive. I've learned that. A good report, satisfaction, feeling of competence, in your pdoc/hct. etc is the invaluable seal.

Thanks! I have definitely looked into it and talked to her pdoc when he prescribed it. She has had a rough few weeks, barely sleeping, and prozac 10 mg was not helping anymore with her depression, impulsivity, etc. So he increased prozac to 20 mg and added seroquel for nighttime. The sedative effect is essentially a bonus in her case to quiet her mind so she can sleep.

Thanks for the links! I'm finding out as a parent I need to be her biggest advocate and that's one of the reasons I joined this community.

I too took Seroquel for sleep. Worked pretty well, though instead of taking the prescribed 25mg, I cut the pill in half.
