Topamax is called referred to among docs as "Dopamax" for two reasons: knocks people out and it kills memory and information retention.

It has killed my memory and information retention capabilities (might also be Conversion Disorder symptom, Lamictal and Klonopin side effect in combination), but it does not knock me out.

In fact, it wakes me TF up. Like feels like hypomania and ADHD type wake-up hyperactivity.

Anyone else have this happen on Topamax? Only on 50mg, so relatively low dose.

Also on 150mg of Welbutrin XL, 15mg Adderall XR, 200mg Lamictal, and 1.5mg of Klonopin.

I had the typical "dopomax" side effects.

Have you called the prescribing physician? Topamax has a lot of symptoms that are all across the board.

I have not had that happen with Topamax but I also take Wellbutri XL with it. The Wellbutrin alone is activating for me. Perhaps this is the issue or it is a combination of it or other meds that is causing the symptoms. Talk to your doctor. I hope it gets sorted out for you soon.

I was on a very low dose a long time ago. It made very hyped up. It also dulled my inhibitions. I became a very reckless and dangerous driver. I stopped it.

Please tell your prescribing doctor how it is affecting you.

Thanks for your reply!

I'm an idiot [or possible side effect of the Topamax...] and failed to mention that this is a rather recent side occurrence. I am ALL over the place, bouncing from task to task, forgetting what the hell the previous task was prior to the one I was currently on... super hyper, talkative, excessively friendly, hyperproductive...to the extent that I can be.

It literally feels like hypomania+Topamax+uncontrolled ADHD .__.

I do intend I talking to my psych; I'm seeing him Friday. I let him know last week, and I'm going to let him know again. It feels like there may be a little bit of ultradian mood cycling in there too... with the way it just "kicks in" sometimes.

Welbutrin XL, even when I was on the 300mg, was never activating for me. It just was like "meh". I've been on these all five of these meds together since May. Prior to May, minus the Adderal, April, and prior to that, since November 2015. Perhaps it takes times to build in the system.

Perhaps extenuating life circumstances? Either way, it's screwing me over.

Thank you for your response!

Mentioned it last week. Going to put emphasis on it this week. I actually ended up with kidney stones on it due to a combinations of dehydration from a Conversion Disorder episode and a genetic predisposition I didn't know I had. It worked well though, so we've not discontinued it just yet, though he does want to D/C it in the future.

I took Topamax for a bit and it affected my vocabulary when I was writing. I returned to my normal after DCing it.

I take 25 mg of topamax because it does help but any more than 25 mg and I'm agitated. 25 mg on the other hand is somewhat calming. I'm on a much more effective AP now than I was before so I'll probably try to drop it soon but it has been such a weird thing that it worked at the tiny dose and just a bit more and I was wired.

Topamax effects my memory. I try to remember words and can't. My speech is slower because I am searching for the right words and can't find them for awhile. It is helping with the eating disorder but not sure if I want to stay on it since I am now on Naltrexone, too.

I had the weirdest thing happen. When there was just brand Topamax out and I was on it, I was totally a zombie (like I couldn't figure out how I got home some days). But on generic Topamax, I'm fine. It doesn't dull my cognitive abilities at all. Oh, yeah, forgot to add, both times I've been on 200 mgs twice a day (I have horrible migraines and am on it as a preventative).
