Pristiq and Effexor are supposed to be somewhat alike, but they were very different to me. I reacted very positively to Effexor, but Pristiq did not work for me at all. Cymbalta made me very anxious, which neither Pristiq nor Effexor did. I think every medicine is a little different.

Pristiq worked for me. I was switched to Effexor because of costs and I'm not a fan of it.

Ive heard they are supposed to be similar, but people have different experiences on them.

Im on pristiq and weaning down from 200mg.
Ive gained weight from it and its not doing anything.

And its awful to come off of.

Plus, with insurance and every coupon i could find, it costs over 200 a month.

Thats my experience, not trying to sway you either way, just sharing whats up with my time taking it.

I'm not finding Effexor to be working well enough. I have no experience with pristiq.

Pristiq is one of the metabolites of Effexor (meaning they are like sibling drugs). My father takes Effexor and it works wonderfully for him. They say that genetics can play a part in AD response. However, I tried Pristiq, knowing that it's parent drug (Effexor) worked for my father.

No go...Pristiq made me angry, anxious...etc. So you really never know. Unfortunately it's kind of trial and error. That's why I think it's good to keep a journal to track how you're feeling when changing meds.
