My mother has had a number of chest pains over the last six months. All tests have returned good. They did see some minor thickening of the heart muscle, but the way doctor mentioned this seemed it was of little concern. From what I hear these tend to be genetic and might have even been there all her life.

So there hasn't been a good explanation as to why the chest pains have happened. I do know that at least two of the chest pains were stress related. When I asked my mother about the previous chest pains that occurred many months ago, she doesn't quite recall if she was stressed at the time for all of them.

My questions are:

1- Is it possible for these chest pains to be anxiety stress related, and not any cardiac issue?

2- Can a person have anxiety attacks, even when they feel relatively normal, and out of the blue? Or would it have to happen during a stressed out event, or worrisome thought?

3- Can medications like Seroquel (quetiapine) and Lustral (sertraline) cause chest pains that could be confused with something serious?

Regards,

Mike

Anxiety attacks sometimes give me chest pains. I have them out of the blue but I am generally panicky all the time.
I hope your mom feels better.

There's a syndrome called chronic myofascial pain where the muscles get knots in them that refer pain elsewhere in the body. Almost everyone will experience this from time to time.

I've had chest pains caused by this as has my sister who was told by a doctor friend that she'd had a heart--she didn't have insurance so she never went to the hospital.

Here's an article on the subject along with a diagram of the referred pain.

This link shows you the major trigger points [Xs] along with the referred pain pattern [the red].

I have chest pains when I'm anxious. I've also had my left arm go numb. My heart has been checked out and it's fine.
