I'm currently on 300mg/day of Lamotrogen(sp?) and still experience extreme cases of hypomania. Thanks to this forum i actually figured out i was way under a proper dosage of my Lamotrogen, and would like some personal opinions on lithium

After some blood work i was informed that i have exceedingly high amounts bilirubin, and hoping to get more insight on that tomorrow at my appointment.

Lithium almost killed me but it works for some people, just make sure your doctor isn't an idiot regarding it

I've been offered lithium, but I've heard too many horror stories to go for it. The big problem seems to be kidney damage, and it also doesn't play well with some antipsychotics.

Lithium has been a good drug for me. I am on 900 mg. It helps me with the symptoms of bipolar disorder, and is especially good at quelling suicidal thoughts. I get my blood checked regularly (a must).

I was only on lithium for a month or so... but I really think it helped me. But I decided the side effects were too much and gave up on it. I probably could have and should have persevered with it, maybe I will give it another shot one day.

Lithium has been one of the only drugs that works for me. I'm on 1200 mg/day. Have regular blood tests and be wary of toxicity when throwing up or drinking alcohol.

I've been on doses of 800 mg (too little), 1200 mg (too much) and approx 1000 mg (just about right). I was on it for severe unipolar depression. It didn't work.

By some miracle I didn't get toxicity, even though I barely drank (as in, consumed liquids, not alcohol) for a while while on it, because I was psychotic and suicidal and basically believed drinking would make me immortal.

Interesting question as I am going through some health issues right now due to the Lithium I take including: kidneys, thyroid, and the diagnosis of a rare form of diabetes. I'm on 750mg per day. I expct to hear shortly from my psychiatrist about removing me from the Lithium.

This all a shame as the medication was really working well for me.

These problems are not common place. Mine were caught early as I have regular bloodwork.
