Anyone gained weight on Lamictal? I didn't gain weight on stelazine (old school AP) but have on Lamictal.

Yes, I actually did. Not too much, but I didn't want to gain any more weight.

Also, I was afraid that I'd one day develop the signature rash that some people get when using Lamictal, so I was like 'nah'.

Lambic tak didn't make me gain weight even when I was on 400 Mgs. The other meds I take have definitely added weight.

Lamictal was one that was weight neutral for me. The risperdal they paired it with put about 65lbs on me (until I went off it), though.

Lamictal is weight netrual for me. I had to get off all the meds that caused weight gain. I just couldn't deal with it emotionally anymore. I lost almost 60 pounds since and I'm continuing to lose more. The only issue with lamictal is the horrifying nightmares and night terrors. Its messing up my teeth too. I would rather have that then the weight gain though. I don't have a lot of luck with psych meds. I'm better off them then on them.

I had to switch off lamictal because it couldn't control my mania. But I did lose the risperdal weight while I was still on it, which was 65lbs of fat (I went up to 205 because of risperdal). I gained a lot of it back in muscle (now around 165-175, nobody believes me until I take them down). Weird how meds work...

Lamictal is a mood stabilizer, not an AP, so it only makes sense it didn't do anything for mania. I'm on 400mg & it's weight neutral for me. The rash is EXTREMELY rare...

I took Lamictal for two years. I didn't gain weight on it but it didn't control my mania and depression as well.
Thanks for this!

I know. The risperdal was being used for that. I got up to 4mg, but it caused severe health problems, so my doc went with Depakote because he said it would be better for "someone who runs more manic". Plus, there are a LOT of things I can't take and we kinda ran out of options.

I've seen it work really well for a lot of people and think it's a great med, for the record. I just couldn't make a cocktail out of it that was enough for me personally.

Lamictal has been weight-neutral, regardless of dose for me, and I'm on 400 mg daily.
Thanks for this!

Hi guys, I'm new here. I have been on Lamictal for about 2 years now. I originally titrated up to 150mg and that dosage worked well for me with very little side effects. I went through a depressive episode and went up to 200mg around 8 months ago. 200 is too high for me and I have gained a bit of weight on it. Probably around 5 lbs. I used to be a regular runner with motivation to run and go to the gym. But since I have been on 200, I have become very unmotivated to exercise... I just started watching tv and eating instead. I am also very apathetic towards everything. It has also affected my sex drive. Not as bad as SSRIs but enough to make me notice. I'm going to my psych in a couple of weeks to ask to have it taken back down to 150. But I am convinced that Lamictal is THE drug for me after having suffered through various antidepressants with horrid side effects. Lexapro was the best for me but only the first time around and it caused sexual side effects I couldn't handle.
