in the past year I was taking doxipen and had been at 100mg daily ... I quit it cold turkey when I had my rash (had increased to 100 just two weeks earlier) ... as it seemed the most likely reason ... fast forward to this last week ... wanted to start back on it as I really liked how it was making me feel ... pdoc gave me 50mg and I cut that to about half ... to start slowly ...
it knocked me flat on my butt .... it was 10 to 12 hours before I could get out of bed ... and it was almost 24 hours before I felt safe to drive ... now over 48 hours later I still feel a little loopy .... I have never had anything even close to this happen before ... any ideas why ...

ps: my other meds are the same as they were then ... color me confused ...

With certain drugs, particularly antipsychotics and some antidepressants, there is a paradoxical effect where a smaller dose causes people to become drowsy/sedated, but a higher dose actually lessens this effect.

Lower doses act almost like an antihistamine, as when we take small dosages of the drug, they may have the tendency to bind to another receptor, such as the histamine or GABA more, therefore causing sedative effects. Higher doses however, may bind to both the target receptor (the one which needs to be targeted to get the desired effect) and the other receptors causing side effects equally, instead most of it one the 'side effect receptor'.

I have found that the same medication can have different effects at different times in my life.
