Has anyone else here taken Adderall XR?
The first time I tried it (4-5 months ago), I was on 20mg. I took it at 6am, and in theory, it was supposed to wear off any time between 4pm and 6pm (since its half life is 10-12 hours.) However, I stayed up for close to 48 hours without feeling tired. Is this normal for the first time trying a stimulant like Adderall XR? My pdoc insists because I'm bipolar that it's not supposed to happen. But I was wondering about other people's experiences because I want to try the XR formula again. Thanks! |

Sounds like you are really sensitive to this med. the first day my wife was put on it, she was very manicky, but it subsided. She takes 10mg XR and seems to help some with depression - gets her going. It makes her anxious some but not hyper. Could you try going down to 10mg?

hi. even without a label of bipolar or schizophrenia, some people are prone to psychosis, agitation, (hypo)mania, etc. from stimulants, especially the amphetamines. Its just...well, it is what it is.
Have you ever tried a form of Ritalin or maybe Focalin? They make a bunch of all day preparations. Getting the same mileage from Ritalin requires higher doses, but its a milder stimulant all around. Its also used for Bipolar Depression a good bit, usually with other drugs on board. Other than that...there are other amphetamine preparations available. Vyvanse, which is Dexedrine that lasts all day. Evekeo, which is new and is basically Benzedrine for the 21st century. Rarely, a doctor will prescribe Desoxyn, which is prescription methamphetamine. I doubt that's going to come up in your situation, though. Some people take Provigil or NuVigil and report good results. Insurance coverage can be tricksy, especially with NuVigil. |
