I have been on 150 mg of Zoloft for some months now and I've been fine then recently I found out my cholesterol was elevated and decided to cut off Zoloft. I saw my psychiatrist and I was put on 20 mg of Prozac I was OK for a month but then I got brain zaps, and dizziness and a spaced out feeling as though I'm seeing things foggy. I then have gotten massive daily panic attacks and vomiting always. I worry that I'm gonna die. I decided to go back in Zoloft 25 mg. Could my panic attacks amplify these symptoms? Will i ever be the same? I'm in my last semester in college before I graduate. How can I do this in this mental state I'm in? Im really struggling.

Hi,
Since I see that you're a new member here, I'd like to welcome you to Psych Central. I hope that you'll find this site to be a helpful source of support and information. I think that it would be a good idea to talk to your psychiatrist about the symptoms that you've been experiencing, but I will say that the symptoms that you've described sound like what some people experience after they discontinue SSRI and SNRI antidepressants. And so, I don't know if this is the case, but I have to wonder if what you're experiencing might basically amount to withdrawal symptoms connected with having transitioned from the higher dose of Zoloft that you were taking to what might be seen as a relatively low Prozac dose (and more recently back to Zoloft, albeit at a lower dose than what you were taking previously). Again, I don't know for sure if the ideas that I just expressed necessarily explain the symptoms that you've been experiencing, but you might want to get your psychiatrist's opinion on whether or not he or she thinks that any of your symptoms might basically be withdrawal/discontinuation symptoms. And of course, with your symptoms sounding like they're definitely problematic, asking your psychiatrist and/or another mental health professional about any options that might help to mitigate the symptoms that you're experiencing is something that I think would also make sense. In addition to talking to a mental health professional such as your psychiatrist, you might find talking to others who've experienced similar symptoms while taking antidepressants, after having discontinued antidepressants, or during the course of transitioning from one antidepressant medication to another to be helpful. Two forums here on Psych Central that I'd recommend taking a look at are the "Psychiatric Medications" and "Getting off of Meds" forums. I know that my response to what you've asked here hasn't answered all of the questions that you have, but I do want to wish you luck in getting answers that you'll hopefully find to be more complete either from others on this forum or from your psychiatrist or maybe another mental health professional, and I most certainly hope that you'll get the relief that you need from the symptoms that you've been experiencing. |

I had bad effects from prozac.......suicide attempts started when I took it & it messed up my appetite so bad I ended up down to 83 pounds & put in an ED treatment center..the anorexia was my sort of passive suicide plot too....messed up & welbutrin did the same.
Hard to know what meds work if any. I never had a med that worked for me
