I have been put on a low dose of a drug, generically known as flupentixol for ruminating thoughts.

I do not know much, besides:

- It is a typical antipsychotic. (like Thorazine, Haldol etc.)
- It is a 'high potency' drug of its class.
- Low doses act as an antidepressant.
- It is used for cases of schizophrenia that are treatment resistant/prone to relapse.

Any of you used it? What was your experience like?

I was on this as a depot every two weeks a few years ago. I didn't think it did much for me in the time I was on it, except make me sleepy and hungry. But other people involved in my treatment seemed to think it was doing something because I wasn't self harming as much, if at all.

I didn't stay on it for long though, I have a tendency to just stop taking my meds before they have a real chance of actually doing anything.

I hope you have some luck with it

hi. low doses are "activating." There used to be a mix of a low dose of flupentixol with milnacitran (sp?) or something, in 1 pill, for some forms of depression. I don't know if that's still on the market or not...

Are you taking 2 neuroleptics now? Not necessarily a bad thing, but the data on such combinations is a) sparse and b) generally not supportive of the practice. Just please watch out for EPS and, of course, TD. Antioxidants with the tranquilizers might reduce the risk of TD (vitamin e, gingko biloba, etc.). I'm doing Orthomolecular with my Abilify, and I tolerate the tranquilizer quite well, no EPS, definitely no TD, etc.

I hope it helps. Good luck.

Thank you for the feedback so far (anybody else with opinions feel free to share)

@whisperingskye I did take it for the first time today and feel rather tired- perhaps a side effect that'll calm down? I understand, tend to stop/start things as I go along as well because of the feeling of wanting to live normally. I find myself often taking a 'break' until I either feel I should just continue, or I start getting symptoms reemerging.

@still_crazy (I see your replies all over- you're on fire!) Yeah I am not using the flupentixol/milnacitran combo- just the flupentixol. I am indeed taking two neuroleptics. 1 typical (flupentixol) and 1 atypical (quetiapine) along with lithium, methylphenidate and occasionally alprazolam.
I worry about taking so much. I am only 19 for f^ck sake. I also worry about what neuroleptics potentially do (as you mentioned) and not to mention lithium on my gastrointestinal functioning. God, I just wish I could not take anything. Just stop.

A friend of mine took it. It knocked her right out. She slept all day on it. Low dosage for depression. I'm not sure if being tired is sort of the normal or not on that med.
