Today marks the 5th week completion of prozac treatment. The only relief i've had is from secondary issues, like the intensity and frequency of my tension headaches have significantly decreased, i'm feeling a little more hopeful. Thats about it. My primary concern Anxiety is way up there. unflinching, unchanging, unaffected. The standard wait time is 6 to 8 weeks for these meds to take effect. Since i'm this close to 6th week, and have still not felt any major or even minor benefit for my anxiety, im beginning to wonder if this is the right med for me. When is the right time time to talk to my doctor about a change in my meds regimen. 8 weeks?? or should i give it more time?? Have any one heard of antidepressants kicking in later than this expected standard time of 8 weeks?

No, 8 weeks is too long. Since you are still feeling very anxious, please speak with your doctor as soon as possible. Prozac might not be the correct med for you or, since the Prozac is giving you more hope and has decreased the headaches, you might need an additional med.
Thanks for this!

Prozac I think can take a while to work. Still, 6-8 weeks is a while to wait. Maybe ask about adding something? Some people do well on remeron+prozac, wellbutrin+prozac, some kind of "atypical" tranquilizer+prozac...on and on it goes. Benzodiazepines can help, but they're generally not good for long term use.

I hope you can get some relief. :-)
Thanks for this!
