Hello, much to my dismay, I had to start taking Sarah Quill again recently. I had not wanted to take it because I felt like I gained some weight on it last time however, I was already overweight when I started taking it and I only took it for about a month or two and then stopped.
I keep fluctuating in my weight between 202 120 pounds and I want to get down to 170. Which for me, a small I'm big boned
Anyway, I was wondering if anybody here is taking Seroquel, or has taken it in the past? What were your experiences of side effects, how long did you take it, and did you experience weight gain blood sugar issues or anything else?
I just recently started a low-carb diet less than 100 g of carbs per day, most days of the week. I also take chromium and other stuff to regulate blood sugar naturally. I exercise a few times a week biking or jogging.
My mania get so bad sometimes that it feels like nothing else will work. I caved in and felt like I had to take the Seroquel
Because the Trileptal was not controlling my mania even though it helps with anxiety it also gave me respiratory issues.
I've heard about Latuda, but I don't have insurance right now and I don't know if I can get a savings card for it.
I'm moving myself up to 400 mg on Saraquel
What are usual doses for acute mania? What about doses for maintenance?

My Psychiatrist wants me off of it by July. I have been on it for 7 years. I started off at 25mg and I was taking up to 300mg but that was a mix of regular and slow release. I am now down to 25-50mg. I hear the maximum dosage is something like 700mg. My side effects are no more well apart from constantly shaking. I put a lot of weight on but I don't help myself tbh!
Thanks for this!

Hi, I'm not sure about the dosage. You can google Seroquel dosage and find info on that.

I've been on Seroquel for about 2 1/2 years. The good thing it does for me is helps me sleep really well. Unfortunately, Seroquel has not done anything for stabilizing my moods or decreasing anxiety. I gained a lot of weight on it within a few months of starting it.

At this point I am trying to go off Seroquel- which is hard because the withdrawal symptoms are quite severe. So I have to go off slowly.

For me, Latuda has been a very good medication. It helps my moods, helps some with anxiety, and doesn't make me feel like I'm starving hungry.

Of course, everyone reacts differently to meds.
Thanks for this!

I am allergic to Seroquel unfortunately...I got rash!

they(place called C.r.e.s.s.t) started me off on 400mg and within the first week I gained 50lbs and they increased it by 50mg and I had seizure unknown if it related or not. by time the two weeks were up I gained 75lbs and I looked a lobster. So I don't advise this but I quit it cold turkey I had some terrible dreams and headaches and cravings for food. I told my GP and she put me on a side effect pill, Benadryl, zopiclone for sleep.

As far as side effects on Seroquel, I experience only serious sedation if I take it too early.
I once made the mistake of taking it before going out. I was literally quite similar to a zombie.

I did not experience weight gain- for this you could try a medication to help curb that, work extra hard to lose it, or try an alternative.

The dose for mania:
Initial- 50 mg
Increased at 50 mg increments
Max. dose 800 mg (most respond at about 400)

Stick to a low carb high protein diet. Although the definition of 'low' differs when taking seroquel. It induces cravings for carbs. Boiled Egg whites can be your greatest friends for weight maintenance. They are lean protein, low cal, highly satiating alternative. I eat as much as 20 egg whites a day. Adding wheatgrass juice and black tea to your diet can also help boost your metabolism and keep you full longer. They work amazingly well for me. Hope this helps.
