Good morning! Hope you are all doing well!! I have some questions regarding Klonopin and buspar that maybe you guys could help me with. So the Dr is switching me from Klonopin to buspar so slowly weaning off of k-pin and have been only taking buspar here and there bc it makes me feel weird . So I have been experiencing a slight tingling feeling in my feet and sometimes in my hands could this be from slowly weaning off of the k-pin? I was taking .50 2 times daily now I am taking .50 one time daily or some days just .25, but it has only been a week and I was on kpin for 7 years and taking it everyday for 4-5 years. I wasn't sure if these effects were from coming off kpin or starting buspar. I also experienced ringing in my ears so I stopped the buspar for a couple of days. Has anyone experienced these feelings and do you think it's from coming off kpin or just side effects or buspar? Any advice you guys could offer would be helpful. Thank you all soooo much😊

hi. buspar and benzodiazepines work by completely different mechanisms. The buspar isn't as effective (in large groups of people, overall) as benzodiazepines.
1mgs/Klonopin isn't a lot, but to find your valium (diazepam) equivalent dose, multiply x 20. So, you were on 20mgs/Valium, which is 1/2 the old school recommended max of 40mgs/day. I think your taper is kinda fast, especially since you've been on the kpins for so long. A .5mgs reduction is 1/2 your dose (big cut) and also 10mgs/diazepam, so...yeah, to me, that seems rapid(ish). Has your prescriber talked about a different drug for anxiety? gabapentin, maybe lyrica? Those drugs sometimes help anxiety and can help take the edge off bzd tapers. Some doctors switch kpin over to valium (or librium) and then taper off that, for a slower, more tolerable taper. |
