I took risperidal years ago, but can't remember if I gained weight. Do all antipsychotics make you put on some pounds? I eat very healthy and adequate portions and exercise daily, but this really worries me as I'll probably be put on antipsychotics in a month or so.

Everyone I know who's on olanzapine had a massive weight gain. Same for risperidal. The only one I hear about people not necessarily gaining weight is quetiapine.

I take Latuda and have had no weight gain. As a matter of fact I have lost most of the weight I gained on olanzapine.

Been on risperidone for years with no weight gain. Was on Seroquel 300mgwith no weight gain, then increased to 400 mg and suddenly had crazy sugar cravings and so have put on weight. I'm now trying to get my eating under control.

Thanks people.

I'm skinny and don't have the tendency to put on weight easily. I even lost weight on paroxetine because it lowered my anxiety and sugar cravings. Besides olanzapine, that truly scares me when it comes to weight gain, I can manage the other antipsychotics with my lifestyle anyway.

Seroquel/serokill/quetiapine did cause weight gain (before I became allergic to it)

Seroquel made me gain a lot of weight. Latuda did not cause weight gain. Other antipsychotics I've been on caused mild weight gain.

Everybody's body is different of course. But from my experience Seroquel and Latuda (more so Latuda) are the meds least likely to cause weight gain. My psychiatrist in eating disorder treatment told me that, so I would trust her since she would be more sensitive to weight gain/loss. She put me on Latuda, and I did gain weight, but that was probably because I was on a refeeding meal plan in treatment for Anorexia, so...grain of salt.

Quetiapine (400mg) and risperidone (some low dose or other) both made me gain weight. I ballooned on olanzapine to diabetes level, which seems to have gone away now I'm off it (15mg, I think). I'm now on aripiprazole (20mg) and have lost a significant amount of weight.

really? Seroquel is usually known to cause ALOT of weight gain but depending on the dose of course. Everyone is different of course but this one has a rep for being a gainer.

I took an antipsychotic several years ago (quetiapine, aka seroquel), and while I had some pretty nasty side-effects, I didn't gain any weight while on the medication. And I was on it for a year. I've actually only had intense weight gain as a side effect from two meds, and neither were antipsychs - one was an SSRI, the other an SNRI.

So, no. Everyone reacts to meds differently. One med might make someone gain weight, while another person might actually lose weight because of the same medication. It depends on how your body reacts.

well, I guess I'll just have to test some of them (but avoid olanzapine at all costs).
