I haven't had luck with one yet either nammu
prozac made me manic as hell
wellbutrin made me very suicidal with crazy panic

but I can't help it I keep hoping. so much less long term side effects than the Aps
to be honest as I always am here....he thinks I'm still taking a ap but I'm not

reading about all this td and diabetes and all that on the board scares me even more away from them

here's hoping

I take Zoloft and do okay. I take 100 Mgs but started at 25. No side effects other than the usual.

PRE BP ( diagnosed 43) I was put on it to treat " depression" after my father passed away.. I went full hypo/manic ( didnt know BP ) I was just up and doing anything I decided to for almost a year.... Then I crashed .. Looking back I was a "classic" BP'er

They say BP gets worse with age and I believe it..... the meds zap brain cells daily.

If your Depressive episode is something that has no sign of lifting then give it a whirl .. Most take a few weeks to kick in .... but with BP you might bounce in a week or so.

Just hang on to your hat !

Hope it helps you

Many years ago I took Zoloft. I remember very clearly that when I started taking it I felt really loopy, like I was drunk. That went away and the Zoloft was helpful for a couple of years.

25mg is a tiny dose.

Zoloft has helped me so much throughout my life. I've been taking them for generalized anxiety disorder and panic disorder since I was 11 (now 20). I started on 12.5mg I think; given I was 11, we slowly increased to 25mg... 50mg... 75mg... I now take 100mg and have for almost 4 years now, and it helps so much. Along with either a professional therapist and/or self-therapy, it works great. Everyone responds differently, but my case is a good one. You may not feel it for around a month or two, and you may even feel a bit worse for a few weeks, but you've just go to try to tough it out. It takes a little bit to fully get into your system, and worsened symptoms of your condition are a side-effect, but you've just go to try to remind yourself that it's just the rain before the rainbow. For me, it has helped me live my life happier and less anxious for 9 years now. I highly recommend it to anyone who is planning on trying SSRI's. I wish you the best of luck, my friend!

25mg is a tiny dose. It's the dose they'll start you on if they're unsure it's for you, pretty much.

I actually did see a small difference on 25 mg Zoloft. It was a tiny difference, but it was there. It didn't work for long, though. 50mg worked a little, too, but once again not for long. 100mg (which is a "normal" dose) didn't work at all. So, I wonder if 25mg was like a sugar pill for me. (Even if so, at least it worked for a short while)

Everyone is different, so take my experience with a grain of salt. I'm being weaned off Zoloft right nwo (back down to 50mg) and going to start Effexor. The withdrawals for Zoloft suck. It's definitely the better one to try first, though.

I think it's common to start at that dose and build up. I did ok on zoloft for two different times --once, for about 6 mouths for postpartum depression and in jan. got off of it after 5 years. The withdrawal was hell. You have to taper. Its important to note that zoloft can be effective for anxiety because it induces apathy. You don'tget anxious if you dont give a rat's *** about much. But the price for that is a flatness that i consider to be it's own kind of depression. My range of moods was very narrow, sometimes just a numbness. Also, my libido has skyrocketed. I didnt realize the extent of the sexual side effects.
Thanks for this!

I took Zoloft starting at 25mg. I had to stop it because I couldn't stay awake. I tried taking it at night and I was still so tired. I would fall asleep in class. I didn't have the energy to do anything. I only went up to 50mg I think and then I stopped. I had night sweats and weird dreams while getting on but that's not the reason why I stopped it.

thanks for the input everyone. I have tried 70000 meds but not many antidepressants since my pdoc does not like them in bipolar. I wonder if he just threw 25mg at me to shut me up lol since it seems like its a tiny dose
I'm not feeling tired from it at all so that's a good thing
will see how it goes!

Any update on it jacky? They started me on Zoloft for anxiety. I'm on 50mg right now, but don't think it's working yet. How are you making out?

Zoloft is Satan in a pill for me. It sent me super manic. From what I have been told that side effect is quite common in bipolar 1.

I have been on 25 mg for about 11 days now. seems to be a more energizing than sedating med but don't notice too much else right now. i will ask for 50 when I go back

guineas how much were you on when you became manic

Not guineas but Zoloft also made me manic. I was at 100 Mgs at the time I was not on a mood stabilizer. I'm back on Zoloft at 100mgs and lamictal and I feel fine.

50mg was a ton of anxiety. 100mg full on mania.

I take less than you (op) do.

25mg made me alternate between irritability and euphoria. I'm on about half that dosage now and haven't experienced side effects since changing dosages.
