Hi, does anyone know for a fact that different brands of the same medicine have different levels of side effects, or is it just a placebo effect.

Is it ok to be switching different brands of a medicine, and like taking two 10mg instead of a 20mg because of availability issues.

PDoc recommended 20mg Nodep which is Pakistan Lexapro.
But it was not available in any pharmacy I went to.
So, last week I had to take 2 of 10mg Oxapro which is Bangladesh Lexapro.
And then from day-before-yesterday; 2 of 10mg Nexito which is Indian Lexapro.

Instead of that tired feeling that is not that uncomfortable, from yesterday I'm feeling quite feverish.

Not sure if this is a placebo effect or the different meds are stored and transported in various conditions that effect the efficacy or side-effects. Does anyone have experience in varied side-effects from generic Escitalopram brands..

Not necessarily, it could be something else going on and not the med(s), but it could be side effect(s). Different side effects or less efficacy have been reported with generics, like with any medication. Unfortunately you don't know until you take them, so it is different with everyone as to whether or not you may experience something different with it. Sometimes they are fine, sometimes not.

I found this out with Wellbutrin XL... For me, I cannot take any of the generics offered in our area so I have to take the brand name, frustrating due the cost, but necessary.

I think generics are meant to be the same as branded in terms of the active ingredient (medicine) but they might have different additives to each other that could maybe give you side effects.
Thanks for this!

And today that horrible cluster headache came back, after almost a year. Last time it started about one year into Escitalopram, and now only in 6 weeks. It is a very sharp pain in a side of head that lasts only few seconds to a minute. Last time when that happened, after about a couple of months and an EEG, my Pdoc has phased me into a generic Cymbalta which was later very hard to get off of.

BTW, those are all generics. I'm just used to the brand Nodep, and found consistent results with it. With other brands in previous episode I have experienced periods of ups and downs, that made me think that some other brands have inconsistent doses.

Even with a very small dose change in Escitalopram, be it down or up I can feel it within hours by low blood pressure; I'm quite sensitive to it.

Today, on my way back from archery practice I walked all the way from Colombo 7 to 4 checking in at least 3 pharmacies. This med has never been hard to find, and in most places they have only up-to 10mg. I need 20mg and taking two 10mg has an extra cost.

Finally I found it in the pharmacy near the very hospital I go to see the doc.

So I bought the meds for two whole months, and It has to be stored below 30`C. I wonder if I would have to keep it inside the fridge.

There is no difference between generic and name brand medications.

All that has happened is that the period of time a name brand has a monopoly on the drug has run out making it legal for other companies to start manufacturing it. The generic brands are generally cheaper as they have not made the investment the original pharma company has made in research and trials.
Thanks for this!
