I am currently on Seroquel, Lamictal, Haldol and Klonopin. My pdoc told me that I could not expect birth control pills to work reliably while on these medications.

My pdoc has since died and I have gone to my general practitioner. The meds are working well without any side effects so I hesitate to change them but I'm curious if there are other meds one can take for the same purposes that don't interfere with birth control.

Anybody know where I can find further information about this? I'm not even sure which med in particular is the culprit.

I'm certainly not an expert in this area, but my daughter is on meds that impact the effects of birth control pills. Her Dr opted for Depo Vera (sp), the quarterly shot in place of bcp's. Told her that that meds would not impact the effectiveness of the shot.

While some of the other meds may also impact BCPs, my research on my daughter's meds showed Tegratol to be the main culprit.

My daughter is on Tegratol, Nefazadone and Desipramine.
