I've heard Geodon is supposed to be taken twice a day 12 hours apart. This was ideally what the psychiatrist wanted. However, my endocrinologist has me taking thyroid medication in the morning and says it's best to not to take any other medication for four hours afterward or else it could lessen the effectiveness. So I've been taking one dose of Geodon at noon and one dose at dinner which is only about 6 hours apart. I thought of taking the second dose of Geodon later, such as before bed, but I've also heard Geodon works better when taken with food. Is it so terrible to take Geodon 6 hours apart? I'll have to talk to both doctors about this but was just wondering what others thought.

That sounds like a question for your pdoc.

I wish I could help you, but I just don't know the answer to your question. 6 hours apart seems awfully close, though.
Thanks for this!

Yeah communication between your doctors is key. If not, than it's not safe with med interactions.

I understand how miscommunication or none at all with doctors is not that uncommon but needs to be a priority. Also, including psychologists etc. Sometime you really have to be proactive beyond what should be good practice. Also, I think you are satisfied with your doctors but if not always look for a better one. You can always fire them. They are paid well to treat you and your health!

I'm on Gordon and just saw my pdoc. He increased the dose and said since it can be sedating that it was ok for me to take it all at night. But your doc might disagree. I'm still taking out twice daily just to make sure I always have some in my system.
Thanks for this!

I think taking it at lunch is perfectly fine. The problem is that Geodon has a short half life, like 5 or 8 hours. My old pdoc told me to take it all at night (80mgs) and everything was fine. My new pdoc is better, and she would have me take 40mgs also in the morning to keep it more steadily in I the blood stream. I use to notice withdrawal form Geodon towards the end of the day when I would just take it at night. The only symptom of withdrawal was kinda like a brain zap, but it was so weak and infrequent it didn't bother me at all. Make sure you eat a hearty meal with it!!!
Thanks for this!
