|
My doctor is putting me on topamax for weight loss. Has anyone has positive results from this med? Has anyone had terrible side effects?

I had some anxiety as the level dropped in my system. Usually several hours before I took it again. My pain doc (I take it for fibromyalgia) changed me to an XR version and that fixed it.

I was on it and it made me kind of dopey. I went off it because it was affecting my ability to do schoolwork too much.

This medication must work for some in the treatment for dampening appetite. I tried it years ago and found that it dampened down my normally cautious nature. It isn't called dopamax for nothing.
Only you can know how well it will or won't work for you by taking it. |

Every medication affects every person differently...but I lost some weight with no side effects...I never have side effects with any meds...lucky me!

Decreased my appetite - lost a lot of weight, but when it was increased to 100mg, I got really dumb. I worry that it caused permanent memory loss. It’s not worth it. See if you lose your appetite at 75 mg, after being on that dose for a week or 2. I wish I had done that. I’ve tried taking it again since then, but just the smallest amount causes side effects now. Now I’m taking victoza and it’s helping.

Besides, Topamax is a powerful anticonvulsant used to treat epilepsy and Bipolar disorder...weight loss, in this case, is just a side effect...

It made me a danger to myself and I ended up on a 5150. It also made me stupid and constantly thirsty. I do not recommend it at all.

The first time I took it, I lost almost 50 pounds. I went off it and gained all the weight back and then some, in a matter of months.
Second time it made me even hungrier on it then off it. I was literally eating half a package of Oreos in one sitting. |

I've been on it for a week now and I'm sooooo tired all day. I've noticed I keep trying not to fall asleep. So far this week no change in hunger or weight loss. I'm on 50 mgs.
