I was just wondering about peoples experiences on this med.
Do you like it? Does it work for you? Does it make you gain weight? Does it help with anxiety? I just started it recently. I started at 20mg, but today my doctor upped the dose to 40mg. I'm also bipolar, so I was wondering, if you are bipolar, did it make you manic? So far it's not for me, but I'm on eight psychotropic drugs, so that's probably why!

Took it...gained weight - 50 pounds
It worked...but made me crave alcohol (people doubt me, but it is true...drank, didn't get drunk, didn't get hungover, and risked my liver)... Ended up more depressed after I stopped taking it. Stopped cold turkey ... don't recommend that. Now, no meds...but I'm a side-effects machine... |

I have bipolar as well, taking cymbalta did not make me manic. It also did not make me gain weight. However I found it entirely ineffective for treating depression, and it was AWFUL to get off of. I titrated it down very slowly for two months and still had awful migraines, dizziness, weird head throbbing that felt like being tazed, and nausea for about three weeks. I mostly am angry that my psychiatrist had me taking that for nearly a year when I told him every single month that it wasn't working.

I've been taking Cymbalta at varying doses for 10 years. I increase the dose in the Fall to help with SAD and 80mg and then taper back to 40 or 20 in the spring. Works for me. I also take Seroquel and klonapin

I was put on 90mgs/Cymbalta at a hospital, basically to shut me up and make me "more managable," something like that. I felt...apathetic, yet wired.
I'd say...watch the dose, if you're Bipolar I...don't go above 60mgs/day ((personal, non-professional, fellow "patient" advice here...)). Sorry about your suffering. Mental illness is --not-- fun. :-) |

I took Cymbalta for a few days-- turns out I was allergic to it. I started breaking out in hives and sweating profusely, and have very dialated eyes. So no, it wasn't a big help for me but it did do a lot for my sister -- she did very well on it.
