So I have been on Effexor XR for about 6 months now, but I have had my dose increased the last few weeks, as depression has kicked in again. My problem now with Effexor is that it's increasing my blood pressure and heart rate. My blood pressure when I took it a few days ago was 130/76, which is quite high for me, as it normally (before Effexor) was 120/77 plus/minus 3. And my heart rate a few days ago was 117, which is quite high. I wasn't even doing anything before too. These readings were from the doctor's office, so it could be that I was anxious and stressed about seeing a doctor, but normally I'm not; it's when my mom wants to join me to see a doctor that I get stressed, which she did, but...

Anyways, I'm going to check it in a few days not at a doctor's, at a pharmacy, and see how it is.

I still am increasing the dose too. Currently I'm only on 150mg, but I was told to increase it to 225mg today. I will do so, but I will ask this pdoc I'm seeing Monday. It's an intake, so I'll see how this goes. If this person isn't good, the doctor I saw a few days ago said she can refer me to their psychiatry team, so I have this option in place too.

Did/has this happened to anyone on Effexor/Effexor XR before? Thanks.

I have high blood pressure and increased heart rate with Effexor xr. I am on 600 mg. I also notice I sweat more than usual. I do take a blood pressure med.
Thanks for this!

I'm on 375 mg of Effexor. My blood pressure is on the low side of normal, but I have a high resting heart rate. I don't know if it's the Effexor or not, because I've been on it since 1999 and I don't exactly know what my HR was back then. But my pdoc thinks the Effexor could be contributing to it.

And I've had pharmacists warn me about a blood pressure increase at my dose.

So yes those are both possible side effects.
