Up until yesterday i thought that the uncontrollable tapping, knocking of my feet, rocking back and forth while sitting, the urge to keep standing , are all symptoms of anxiety rather than akathisia. Last time i informed my doc regarding this he changed abilify to latuda. I guess i gotta inform him again, but does that mean that my body cant tolerate antipshychotics given my experience with them, so what are my options now.. quit antipshychotics all together or are there any alternatives that are better tolerated..?

There are plenty of anti psychotics for you to try yet. Don't give up you will find the right one for you.

Is akathisia a permanent condition? or Will this go away when i stop taking the antipshychotic that caused this in the first place? Anyone?

Ive had it for about 8 years. It hasn't gone away for me, but it does for others.

I seem to always have I mild amount about restlessness on mood stabilizers, ability was probably the worst for me because I was moving my legs around so much that the muscles got really sore so it hurt to move but I couldn’t stop moving. With most other medications it is mild enough that I just deal with it. There are so many antipsychotics out there though, just because you has a bad reaction to two of them does not mean there are not ones that would work for you. I don’t know anything about your particular symptoms but if you are having ups and downs but not any sort of hallucinations or delusions something like speak or or trileptial might even work for you, they tend to have way less side effects. Just tell your doctor you can not tolerate the side effects and you want to try something else.

Went away gradually over a few days and never came back thankfully. That was after a trial run on Latuda as well. Is AP's the only way you can treat what you are dealing with?

I'm no doctor, but it seems strange for the doc to suggest AP meds for depression and anxiety. On the other hand it stopped my anxiety attacks for the most part when I took it, though I still had anxiety. I hope they can find something without the side effects that is safer for you.

I intend to ask my doc this very question..why do i need it, what role does it play in my treatment, what if i stop taking it, the whole 9 yards and then decide what next to do..

I had intense akathisia with both Abilify and Latuda, but not with Seroquel. I'm still on Latuda with a supplement that stops the akathisa cold. The akathisia did go away as soon as I stopped the Abilify. (Supplement: Cogentin w/Abilify; propranolol with Latuda, which I like better)

This is very insightful and useful information. Thank you for sharing it with me. May I ask what dose of propranalol do you take? And whyd you stop taking Seroquel?

Cogentin I ended up at 3mg which made my vision light sensitive and blurry. On Latuda we ended up at 80mg propranolol. The first time I was on Seroquel it made me pretty mellow, which I liked; it did make me literally insatiable--I just couldn't get full--though I think that faded away. Anyway I quit it then because I thought Abilfy might be more activating.

The second time I was on it, it didn't affect my appetite or weight but it gave me a painful side effect, though I've never run into anyone on any forum who had it. When I had to sit too long, as in a long car ride, and always during the night I would get terrible pain in my joints and muscles that would wake me up. I put up with this way longer than I should have because I liked the way Seroquel made me feel otherwise. When I finally switched to Latuda that went away. As I said it must be rare, I wouldn't worry about it.
