Anyone ever been on Vistaril and Topamax??? Yesterday I was prescribed both these meds and have been afraid to take the Topiramate but took the hydroxyzine at bed time and it didn't seem to do anything shortly after besides give me a unsettling feeling of dizziness and I eventually fell asleep late around 3am woke up around 8 groggy drank a coffee ended up falling asleep couple hours after then slept all day! It wasn't anything I could be doing if I was working.

I am trying to get my mind right and also I'm on suboxin but things seem to be not getting better even back tracking somewhat. Haven't worked in 4 years and not sure how I can get hired after such a long time not working.

What is your experience with these meds?

Hello Dawhoda: I'm sorry I cannot comment with regard to your concern. But I noticed this was your first post here on PC, & that it was posted on 12/19. So I wanted to at least welcome you to Psych Central. Hopefully there are some other members here who will be able to offer some insights with regard to these med's. I hope you find whatever time you spend here on PC to be of benefit.

I'm on Topamax 400 mg ( originally 250) for my migraines but after my surgery they found out I had seizures so they increased my topamax I get more tired and way more nervous hopefully it'll go away. Topamax works but when you go up ( increase)the side effects increase I notice as with any medication.

twice i've tried 50mg. of vistaril (hydroxyzine pamoate) to use instead of either 12-1/2 mg. or 25 mg. of seroquel cause even tho i work out hard 5 days a week, and do not eat after 5pm, i'm noticing weight gain from seroquel; both times i tried vistaril they wired me rather than sedated me and i got no sleep whatsoever. gonna stick with low doses of seroquel ir for sleep and get used to the weight gain!

I was on topamax to help me lose weight. The first time I took it I lost 50 pounds. But I had to go off it because it was causing high lithium levels. I gained the 50 pounds back and more pretty quickly.

When I got off my lithium I asked to go back on topamax. That time it made me so hungry I was sitting on the couch devouring a package of Oreos. I got off it again and have not been back on it.

Visterial caused me to be hungry and made me very tired. I was also jumpy on it. And I had this weird feeling like I was lucid dreaming but awake.

I didn’t take the visteral for months. Then a couple of weeks ago I took one, and had no side effects. Which I found very strange.

Then Tuesday before I went to bed I took one and after taking my morning meds on Wednesday, I went to work and I was so tired I could barely stand it took me about 15 minutes just to get the plastic off a lamp I was building. I really struggled for half of my 7 hour shift. And I wanted to leave so badly. And I would have left if I had not been on probation and if I didn’t leave early one day and call in the next, the week before.

I found it so weird I had no side effects from it and then a week later I had full blown side effects.

I’ve been on both separately but not together. I took Topamax for a few mos for PTSD (off label). My dose was fairly low, maybe 100? It didn’t have much effect on my PTSD, but it had the unintended benefit of reduced headaches, which led me to be Dx with migraine. It also made me spot (I was on the pill at the time), and I developed horrible PMS, so I went off it.

I’ve taken vistaril off and on for about 5 years. I was prescribed it as a prn while inpatient, and it was mildly effective. After I got out, I continued to take it an a prn alternated with a benzo to minimize tolerance. I then got into a terrible habit of taking 25-50mg of vistaril at night shortly before I take my trazodone to sleep. I started this during a failed attempt to taper off trazodone, and then I started needing both to sleep many nights. On weekends I can go without the vistaril but not usually during the week.
