I have had past experiences with antidepressants causing slight hypomanic symptoms.
I was once prescribed Celexa by a GP but felt that I did not want to take the risk. The thing is, I was once on an antidepressant (ssri) in conjunction with an antipsychotic and mood stabilizer. I did fair well on that combination. I have no idea why I stopped that. (I think it was a side effect) I am currently on the medications as listed on my signature below, but feel that an antidepressant would be well worth the risk if it improves my various anxiety issues. I can get said prescription from a different doctor, determine whether it works and then go back and convince my cautious psychiatrist that it is a good idea... Or I could try and convince my psychiatrist to try me on a combination of antidepressant/antipsychotic/mood stabilizer, which should keep everything in harmony...with this I fear that: a) My psychiatrist refuses to take a risk b) Tries to put me on a low dose or something like that (I am not afraid and want this to be properly tested out) I suppose I could get to a psychiatrist that is willing to try this out for my sake... but I really like my psychiatrist and have switched in the past. What do I do? I have heard from the psychologist that I see that doing doctors do use other medications as indicated above to work around the possible hypomania brought on by an antidepressant.

I think the best bet is to talk to your doctor. Tell them what has worked in the past and your concerns. See what they say.
