When those of you that take topamax have a bad taste when you started it? All carbonated beverages taste like alcohol to me. Yesterday a friend told me I was slurring my words too. This med has me freaked out.

I find Topamax to be a very good drug for me. It did at first give soda a weird taste, as well as beer ( I know, I shouldn't be drinking it on meds ) . But it went away after a while. I also had some brain fog. Maybe I slurred my words, too. All the side effects went away after a few months. You really have to give it some time to get in to your system. For me, it is my wonder drug. It has leveled my moods and helped alot with my depression. It doesn't seem to keep me wanting to lay around all the time like Lithium did. I also lost alot of weight on it. I think of it as my diet pill. The side effects I can tolerate because of the good things this pill does for me.

I took Topamax for migraine headaches, 100 mg. a.m. & p.m. I was on this for about 3 years. I did lose weight. I never noticed a wierd taste. But, then again, I am on other
med's. I wish I could go back on this.I need to lose more
weight.

Best of luck. Topamax and weird tastes Topamax and weird tastes Topamax and weird tastes

Jannie, yes to both of your questions. My p-doc said if I would've stuck it out then the fogginess would have subsided.

I may go back on it...give it more time if you feel you can.

I'm going to try to stick it out. The funky taste is starting to go away but the fogginess is still there. I had an MRI of my head today to see if maybe something up there is the source of my migranes so we will see.

My GP did pull my dose back from 400mg to 50mg so I wouldn't be so dizzy and I go back and see him on Wednesday. I plan on going there then running home and getting into costume.
