I just started Topamax. a few days ago, 50mg. to start. The first 2 days I thought I found a wonder drug. Then back to the same old BS! What is a "NORMAL" (whatever normal is?) doesage for someone who is bulimic? If The dose is increased, will it continue to wear off over time? Does it take a while for the drug to really kick in? Or am I just setting myself up for failure again? Just wondering? Has Topamax really & truly helped anyone else here? Love to get some FB on this drug.

Thanks

Hi ravenlunatic,

I too struggle with bulimia but have never heard of being treated with Topamax. I always thought Topamax was used for severe headaches and convulsion type stuff. I personally have not come across a prescription drug to help with my bulimia. Sorry I can’t answer your question specifically but, for whatever it’s worth there is a supplement you can buy through any health food store that might help. It’s not a miracle worker but it cut back more than half of my bulimic behavior, and within only two weeks of using it. It’s called 5-HTP. Simply described, it’s a form of amino acid that plays a big role in serotonin. If you do take this I wouldn’t mix it with any other stuff and I would definitely take it under the supervision of your doc. Best wishes with all of this. Finding the right prescription plan is always rough.

Hugs. ~ Bee

I was given topamax for severe migraine headaches, that resulted into having my neck shot with steroids. Since that
only lasted for a few weeks I had to have my nerves killed
on my neck and in back of my skull. I was then prescribed
this wonderful drug, along with physical therapy. I lost about
10 lbs in two months.I don't know if this medication will
help with your bulima. Hopefully your doctor can help you,
with the right medication.
Good luck and I wish you well.
