This past December I changed from taking Zyprexa (was gaining to much weight) To Geodon. Since then I have been having bouts of nausea that make it difficult to eat anything. I know that taking Geodon with food is very important and that fact that many of my doses are not taken with food might have caused a spike in my anxiety.

My question is does the nausea ever get better? And/or Is there any thing that I can do to help relieve the nausea. I have thought of taking ginger pills but wasn't sure if that would work.

I've taken Geodon before but I never got nauseated on it. It just made me have really bad EPS issues (my eyes wouldn't stop rolling upwards). I was given congentin to take with it but it did nothing, so I refused to take it anymore. The only med that ever gave me nausea was Buspar. After a few weeks the nausea went away

I have been on Geodon too. I can’t remember if I took food with it. But I never felt nauseated. I got this rapid eye blinking, for a side effect. But I do suggest talking to your psychiatrist. They might prescribe something to stop it or lower dose.

Gosh. Have not been on Geodon, but it is a possible change we are going to make. I am glad that I saw this thread about the eating etc. as she did not mention anything before while I was discussing Geodon with my doctor.

just saw psych nurse yesterday and she started me on geodon 20mg plus 5mg ambien since insomnia has become such a big problem (i have hypomania and no depression) and 25mg. seroquel usually worked well but pooped out so psych nurse said i needed to get back on a mood stabilizer and that it would make me sleepy and chill me out and pointed out that it MUST be taken at dinner (eating protein) for it to work; after dinner out with friends, picked up the 2 new rx and took the 20 mg geodon in the car at walgreens; waited for sleepiness; got ready for bed and took 5mg ambien...did nothing; took another 5mg ambien; did nothing so finally added some klonopin and still had crappy sleep but did wake with runny nose...so does geodon calm you down, or make you sleepy and does it take a while for the body to adjust to this new med? would appreciate your input.

I took it when I was in the hospital, and the psychiatrist there said that some people feel extremely sleepy. I didn’t feel that side effect. But I did feel sleeper and a bit clam. But I took this for schizophrenia not hypomania, so there could be a bit of a difference.

I took it in the hospital it did not cause any nausea. The one thing it did was change my taste buds everything tasted the same and made me want to puke.

Geodon gave me terrible nausea and feelings of sickness. I wasn't aware at that time that it was supposed to be taken with food. I think the only remedy for the nausea is to take food with the dose, not after or beforehand. Good luck.

I'll be frank: Geodon, for me, was the worst med I've ever been on. It made me tired when I needed to be awake and wired when I needed to sleep. I didn't feel nauseated while on it, but I just felt all 'off' and very weird. I gave it 3 months, then went off of it.

i must had my feedback from taking geodon 20 mg. for only 2 days (at a $92 expense); both nites when i took with food (protein, per my psych nurse) which was supposed to chill me out and make me sleepy since insomnia has become a major problem for me, i immediately got a headache; my eyes started running, my nose was running and i was sneezing non-stop; my teeth hurt and i had incontinence and it felt as if my head was going to explode. after 2 days of identical symptoms, i stopped the med and all symptoms went away...worst drug i've ever taken.

Are you taking it with food? Some meds cause nausea when taken on an empty stomach. I take it with food and never have nausea.

I had this side effect too along with drowsiness. I had it compounded to 10 mg finally. Drink lots of gingerale it's a pain but it will go away.
