Has anyone tried Effexor? What were your experience?
I was prescribed Effexor today; basically stopping Lexapro and starting Effexor.
Thank you in advance for your comments.

I'm not your typical person to answer this. But anyway, I have bipolar type one and it kept me manic for years, combined with Adderall. I loved it. Not really good for me, but it was fun until I burned out my brain and crashed HARD. Oddly enough, I found several of them in some things my ex had boxed up for me. I flushed them all directly down the toilet with a sigh. No time for that.
Thanks for this!

Effexor has really helped me. It pulled me out of a very deep dark depression. I've been on it since 1999. The only thing I worry about is going off it some day as it has a reputation for being very hard to withdraw from.

I did not find Effexor helpful, but I never found any AD helpful. I also had issues with it causing drowsiness. There are other threads on Effexor if you search for them. I recall having one a while back when I had started it.

I did very well on it, too (75 mg) although depression was mild. Lexapro made me agitated.

Thank you everyone for the responses.
I started it today. So far the only side effect has been the loss of appetite which I am fine with.
It is way too early to tell if this will help me with my depression. We shall see

I was on Effexor XR for about 8 months. It was good at getting me out of depression. I was good on it for 4 months, and then I fell back into depression, and we tried to increase but I was still not very good, plus I had bad side effects (high blood pressure, high pulse). So I got off of it, and that was probably the worst experience out of everything. I was hospitalized briefly, which I believe was from the withdrawal. I hope it works for you though.

Thank you for your feedback. What was dosage you used?

I have been on effexor since November. Did not see much improvement in anything at first. Psychiatrist bumped up dosage each month. Now at 150 mg I see an improvement in my anxiety, to where I almost feel stable. But if I let a trigger affect me it may take a day or two to settle down. But in therapy recently my therapist remarked that it was nice to see me smile, if only briefly.

I am on it now and think it has worked great so far but I am looking to lower my dosage. I would like to first get off Latuda as that is causing more side effects then the Effexor but I am hoping to go down from 225 to 150 and hopefully one day 75 and then none.

Hi,I'm new to Effexor XR.less than 2 months and now taking 150mg/day.
But I could felt motivated 1st day I took it.(37.5mg)

It's helping me really stressful time as I have to plan moving.
I could many things I didn't so long time.

Problem is,I have high blood pressure (145/105 or so)even before effexor, and It getting higher.(150/110)But no other meds worked for me like this, and here in Japan,we have not so many choice.
So,I decided to take Blood pressure meds as well and be really careful.no other side effect so far.(I'm 52yrs old)
