I have been experiencing some stomach trouble. My GP put me on prescription Prilosec. After the first dose I was okay, didn't notice anything. I took the 2nd dose yesterday and half an hour later I developed a pounding headache, aching pain in my arms and legs, stomach cramps, queasiness, and felt completely fatigued. As in, I could not hold my eyes open.

I slept some and when I awoke I felt even worse. I felt like I had the flu, but no fever and...just not exactly like the flu. But I was in agony with the pain and feeling sick all over my body.

Today I've felt better (did not take the Prilosec), although I am still achy and quite fatigued.

I'm wondering if I had a medication interaction with the Prilosec. (I'm on Cymbalta, Lamictal, low-dose Seroquel, and Klonopin). I'm thinking that perhaps the Prilosec caused 1 or more of my psych meds to increase in potency.

The other possibility is that I do have a virus and the Prilosec was just a coincidence. Although, it seems like an awfully odd coincidence, considering the symptoms hit so suddenly after taking the Prilosec dose.

I didn't call my GP yet because I just have not had the energy to do so.

Has anyone here had experience with prescription Prilosec? Any odd side effects?

I take prescription strength prilosec with no issues. No interactions with any of my other meds.

I currently take OTC prilosec with fluoxetine and have never had any bad interactions between them - if anything, the fluoxetine has reduced my need for the prilosec.

I used to be on prescription nexium, but switched to save money some time before starting ADs.

Probably best to tell your doc, once you feel up to it & stay off the prilosec at least until you've recovered. It could be coincidence, or perhaps you have a sensitivity to the combo? Trouble is flu symptoms can feel the same as an interaction/reaction may, so it's hard to be sure.

Thanks to both of you. I awoke still feeling pretty terrible this morning, so I'm thinking that I actually am sick. I'm pretty sure the Prilosec was just bad timing because I was getting sick when I took it.

I think I'll try the Prilosec again when this (apparently) virus passes.

I take Prilosec and I’ve never had those kinds of problems. It sounds like you have some kind of bug. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks to each of you. I definitely have a bug, been sick all week. The thing just happened to hit me right after I took the Prilosec. I'm going to try the Prilosec again tomorrow - I'm expecting better results

I hope all goes well. Prilosec really helps me when I’m going through stomach issues and reflux.
